How this is counted
A publication's arrival on a story is its earliest article there, by the time the publisher gave. A story has a leader only when one publication came at least a minute before every other and no more than 6 hours before the next. Ties are not scoops, and a longer gap is usually an older, related article that was grouped into a later story. A publication needs at least 10 stories to be listed, since a share over a handful of stories says nothing.
It measures who published first in the feeds we read, not who had the story first. A feed that posts in batches, or that gives no time and falls back to when we first saw the item, can look slower than it is. Stories come from NewsMarkets' grouping of similar headlines, which is imperfect.
