Terms of use
Last updated 2026-10-07.
By using A River of News you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
What the site is
A River of News lists news headlines from many publishers in time order, with the publisher's name, the time and a link to the original. It also offers search, leaderboards, stories, a weekly roundup, an email, an API and widgets built from the same headlines. It is free.
Headlines belong to their publishers
Headlines, links, publisher names and author names belong to the publishers and writers who made them. We list them and link to the original. We do not copy article text. Showing a headline here is not an endorsement of it or of its publisher, and we do not check the facts in any headline. Read the article at the publisher for the full story, and take corrections to the publisher. To have a headline, a name or a publication removed from this site, see the contact page.
Using the site
You may read, search, share links to and subscribe to the site for any lawful purpose. Please do not:
- overload the site, or work around its limits on how often you can ask
- try to break into it, or to reach the admin page or other people's data
- use the email form to send mail to someone who did not ask for it
- use the site, its API or its widgets to harm others, or in a way that breaks the law
We may slow, block or refuse anyone who does, without notice.
The API, feeds and widgets
The API, the RSS and JSON feeds and the embeddable widgets are free and need no key. If you use them:
- show the publisher's name beside each headline, and link each headline to its original
- keep the credit line in a widget
- do not present our lists as your own work, or imply that we endorse you
- stay within the limits. A request over the limit gets status 429 and a
Retry-Afterheader. Please wait that long.
We may change or stop any of it. We will try to keep an old API version working for a while after a new one arrives, but we do not promise it.
Paid API keys
A paid key is a monthly subscription taken by Stripe. It raises the request limit; it does not change what the data is or what you may do with it, as set out above. It can be cancelled at any time through the link in your Stripe receipt, and then it stops working. We may refuse or stop a key that is used to attack the site or to get round the limits. We do not give refunds for a month already started, unless the law says we must.
Email and notifications
You can unsubscribe from the email at any time with the link in each message, and turn off notifications on the following page. The privacy page says what we keep.
No guarantees
The site is provided as it is. Headlines may be late, missing, repeated, out of order or wrong, and the site may be down. Counts, rankings, stories and leaderboards are made by a program from headlines alone, and they can be mistaken. Do not rely on the site for anything where a mistake could cost you money or safety.
Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of the site is not responsible for any loss that comes from using it or from relying on what it shows, including loss from a publisher's content or a site we link to. Nothing here limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.
Links to other sites
Every headline leads to a publisher's website, and some pages link to social sites. We do not control them and are not responsible for them. Their terms and privacy practices apply there.
Changes
We may change these terms. The date at the top shows when. Using the site after a change means you accept it.
